Something happens with the forums, once in a great while, seemingly at random. I want to figure out how and why, because I want it to keep happening. :-)
Normally, the "WowAce Forums" top tab on the forums.wowace.com page has links underneath it, starting with the User CP and ending with "New Posts", "Search V", and "Quick Links V". Here the 'V' represents a down arrow, and clicking the link causes a popup menu to appear. (The menu itself is offset like 3 inches down and to the side, but whatever; the menu itself is consistent.)
After clicking "New Posts" (and waiting some 5 minutes; any forum DB hit related to the specific user logged in takes forever), and browsing through the recent activity, I hit the "Quick Links" menu and choose "Mark Forums Read". That's the normal cycle of reading. All good.
Except, once in a blue moon, I seem to misclick on the Quick Links bar. It feels like I've double-clicked with a twitchy finger, maybe too much coffee. I can't reproduce it at will, but here's the result:
The last two links, the two drop-down menu links, get replaced. And one of the things replacing them is exactly what I want on that bar; it's the only thing I ever use out of the "quick links" menu, which is otherwise just an annoying speedbump for me.
As soon as I click on the new Mark Forums Read link, or do anything to cause another wowace page to appear (i.e., a new url), the top menus are back to normal. I feel embarrassed for saying so, but I cannot for the life of me figure out (a) what's happening during this apparent misclick, nor (b) how to make the change permanent. There's nothing in the user control panel page that has any effect on the top rows of links.
The thing is, that top line goes back to normal after clicking the Quick Links -> Mark Read sequence. I'm guessing it's a substitute for the popup menu. Do you know of a way to make those two links permanent?
