This is due to an MS bug im pretty sure. At least I have seen a similar issue with Windows Update which was corrected via a hotfix.
Try the 1.9.44 test deployment and see if it behaves the same. (Read the main thread)
Also try uninstalling WAU from the control panel then deleting the entire clickonce application cache
C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\apps\2.0
This looks like the fix I need to get WAU to work. Please dumb it down on were to find the 1.9.44 d/l. When you wrote, "Read the main thread." It made no since to me even though it might other, I'm slow. I couldn't find frame of reference to read. If you would be kind enough to put the link in a reply, that would be great. Also, What is the clickonce application cache? The location spesified must be different on my XP machine. It's location does not ring any bells and I've taken a look.
Okay.. Now almost every time I update I get a Windows error that the WAU has encountered a serious error and needs to close. It'll generally go through the entire update process and fail immediately after updating the last out-of-date addon. I'm running what I hope is the latest from the auto-update option (1.9.43.602).
Err, just recreated it:
WowAceUpdater has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
And it gives me the options to send the details to Microsoft or not. After clicking either the WAU closes.
Basically go into your Control Panel, Add/Remove programs and uninstall WowAceUpdater
Open the folder C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Local Settings\Apps and you should see a folder called 2.0 which you need to delete
Goto http://www.wowace.com/wau/publish.htm and install it again
The key used to sign the application has been changed. So the application which the self-update finds will not have the correct signature, and will generate an error 30 seconds after running WAU, when WAU is not busy doing anything else
To fix this you MUST uninstall 1.9.43 from the control panel
Please reinstall using the standard wau file links. Version 1.9.44 is live.
I finally unistalled wowace updated and deleted the C:\Documents and Settings\*user name*\Local Settings\Apps\2.0
I still am receiving this:
WAU Version (1.9.44.654) assembly version (1.9.44.28121)
Error During Download: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: The attempted operation is not supported for the type of object referenced

I can't seem to get it to install no matter what I do. I actually had it installed was using firefox with the ffclickonce addon. installed and such. but I made a mistake and manually deleted wowaceupdater from my computer (dont ask why) everypossible wowaceupdater or anything named that is gone. Now when I get to http://www.wowace.com/wau/publish.htm I click the install button and do the same thing as before with ffclickonce and nothing happens, but wowaceupdater is no where to be found on my computer. I also tested it with anything with clickconce and when I go to install nothing happens ever. also "Note: The zip is probably the easiest." None of the setup files work or the 2 Application manifests they just don't work no error or anything just nothing happens. Any help would be appreciated to fix this -.-

Don't know what to say. Its an issue with your machine. Read the sticky, and do the "Corrupt ClickOnce Cache" cleanup
http://www.wowace.com/wau/publish.htm if you use IE you can click the link.
If you use firefox, the easiest thing to do is use IE to download the app. Afterwards it can update on its own.
You can also get this addon for firefox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1608
Or you can also try:
http://www.wowace.com/wau/Install_WAU.zip
But it's still not saving my window state :-(

You winsock key is corrupt. Find the solution in the main thread
Look at the sticky o.O

You mean restart the WAU thread?
