Fix:
This for me was a permissions issue regarding WoW files.
1) Goto your Programs Files dir and right click on "World of Warcraft"
2) Choose the Security Tab
3) Click on Edit
4) At this point I picked CREATOR OWNER and selected Allow for all then applied
5) Once that had completed I changed to my User in Vista and selected Allow then applied.
Once that had finished my WAU began working.
For those that are also having trouble I am running an non-updated Windows Vista 64 Ultimate Edition
Attempted to get WowAceUpdater this evening. During download I get the following error message:

Ok, I have searched all through the forums and cant find any mention of the problem that I am having. I down loaded WAU yesterday and updated my addons, everything seemed to be working fine. logged onto WOW and had to reset all my mods, not big deal just figured it was from them being updated. Today I logged into WOW and again had to reset all my mods, every time I log out of WOW completely the next time I log in i have to reset all mod options. this didnt happen till I down loaded and used WAU.
WAU doesn't touch your WTF folder except to check what version your client is running at and to clean up the saved variables (and only if you select that option in the menu to have it do that).
OK, in trying to figure out this problem I erased my add ons file, reloaded all my addons, ran all the ad ware/spyware and virus scanners, 6 programs total). Erased all issues that were found. Went back in to reset the mods. after closing WOW down completely I relogged, and low and behold same thing. SO, i decided to watch what was going on in the saved variables file, what I have found is that when I start watching the WTF file, everything in the account file is being replaced and rebuilt thus resetting the mods to origanal set up. any help with whta could be causeing this would save me a lot of grief. Thanks
ok I've searched and searched and tried the few things I could think of - nothing is working.
So here's my issue.
A week or so ago, WoWAceUpdator was running fine. Always had been. Never had a problem.
I come back from out of town after a few days (noone was on the system), and when I tried to load it I got the following error.
I tried uninstalling it, and reinstalling it - and when I go to reinstall I'm getting the SAME error message I got when I just tried to run it from before.
The error message is:
An unexpected error occured. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and restart the application.
The specified procedure could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007F)
Again - I got this error out of the blue one day with nothing changing from running fine before. And then I got the error again when trying a fresh reinstall from the program from this site (the install_wau exe).

I'm running XP Pro 32bit and I'm getting a really strange problem as the program won't even start for me (first time install) after I used the IE install link. All I get is the below prompt to select a program to open it and regardless of what I select it never runs.
I have 2 (nearly) identical machines. On one of them WAU works perfectly. On the other it won't launch. When I install it says it worked, but when I run it the screen flashes up for a split second then closes. I tried watching it in the Task Manager and I see it pop up and disappear almost instantly. There is no error displayed and nothing in the Event Log. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it repeatedly (with both the IE install and the stand alone exe). I have reset all IE settings to their defaults and cleared the history, then reinstalled again. The system is running XP Pro and has .NET 1.2, 2.0 SP1 and 3.0 SP1 with the latest updates from microsoft for all of them.
I have also tried removing the 2.0 folder and registry key mentioned above, then reinstalling, all to no avail.
I would like to offer an alternative answer to #17
17) I am running Windows Vista, and wow is installed in the Program Files directory
You have two choices here: allow WAU to update the addons for all users or just yourself.
17a) I want to update the AddOns for all users on this Vista machine using the Administrator account.
You need to run the program from an administrator account. (right click on the shortcut and click "run as administrator")
You need to fix the permissions on wow directory to give administrators full control, and propagate that to all subdirectories, or install WOW into some directory besides program files.
17b) I want to update the AddOns just for my user account on this Vista machine using the VirtualStore.
First be sure that you are using the AddOns and WTF folders located in your VirtualStore. Find your WoW installation directory ( C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft ) and copy the "Interface" and "WTF" folders to your Vista account's VirtualStore ( C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\World of Warcraft ). It is recommended that you merge folders but do not overwrite files. If you are the only user playing WoW you may safely delete the "Interface" and "WTF" folders left in the Program Files location ( C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft ).
Next change WAU to update the files in your VirtualStore and not in program files ( C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\World of Warcraft ). This will allow you to use different AddOns than other users and also may allow you to run WAU without running it as an administrator.
Sure, I dont think even 1% of the people who read this know what the virtual store is, or why they would want to use it. A side point is that which addons are enabled / disabled is a per account setting anyways. But its a clever idea to use the virtual store in this manner - though I do think that anyone who would be capable of setting wau up to use the virtual store proably doesnt need any instruction. I'm too tired now to edit the question list (my eyes are crossed I am so tired)
I know its not in the section you added. But there is no way or need to run a click-once app any other way than clicking directly on the link in your start menu, or wherever else you moved it. You will note there is no way you can change the options on this shortcut to run as administrator. That arrangement has already been made for you.
Oh, the run as administrator option must have been left over from an older WAU 1.9 or an older .NET - you are right suing .NET 3.5 and the current WAU I don't see it.

My 17a is wrong.
The problem was really with VS2005's manifest generator not adding a section which vista needs in order to support UAC and virtualization.
But, yeah, when I moved to click-once deployments you no longer had an option to elevate. In fact, it should have become unnecessary after the first time you ran the app.

Well it looks like Vista users still need some way to elevate or they have to muck with either permissions or the virtual store.
