Please change this back, or make the old view default. The new view breaks the macaceupdater and it's hell to navigate manually. The old big page was working just fine.
Want to shut up, calm down, and be patient? It only just went up yesterday, it will get better, an a-z sorting is being written.
Thanks for your polite response. I'm guessing most ppl use one of the updater programs, and therefore this change to the site was unneeded. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
You are welcome, gotta love it when people try to change something on their spare time trying to improve the site only to have idiots flame the shit out of it, ITS NOT FINISHED.

Just because you spend you spare time on it doesn't mean I have to like it :) It also doesn't mean you can call me an idiot just for not agreeing with you.
It doesn't matter if it's finished or not. The Macaceupdater parses the html and pulls out the tbody and td elements. By completely switching to javascript the updater can no longer parse the html. That's why I proposed you do your improvents on another url than files.wowace.com, take greatlookingfiles.wowace.com to make it look fantastic. Your changes break the updaters.
Perhaps a beta page would have served you better, since it's not done, and obviously people would expect that URL to be production. I've read over this a couple of times now, and I have to say it looks mostly like constructive criticism and feedback--not *flames* from *idiots*.
Anyway back on topic, I do like the change as it seems much faster. I imagine this has to do with my browser's rendering speed. Nice to hear A-Z sorting is being worked on, good stuff!
Keep it civil people, no need for everyone to get all snippy.
The page is being worked on by Kaelten, trying to add useful features and better presentation of the data set, while reducing the amount of bandwidth required to do so. I agree, yes, it would have been nice for some of this to have been done in a sandbox, but there isn't currently a way to emulate the way the zip script runs in another directory, without bogging down the entire server (afaik). If you want to post constructive feedback, I suggest you make a new thread that clearly demonstrates what you're looking for, and what you dislike about the current page.
<hint> a greasemonkey script to output all rows instead of paging them should be trivial.
the new layout is dumb, if your looking for a specific addon its click-working through the pages -.-
at least make it sort by alphabet, or option for showing all at once in a list like before -.-
Suggestion: Page by first letter of addon, instead of just numerically. Of course, this wouldn't really work when you sorted the page differently... hmm.
Another thing to consider for those complaining about an updater being broken with the change... If it is parsing the HTML then it is doing it wrong and it is up to the author to fixit and not an issue for those designing the page to care about.
The only supported method is using the XML feeds. This prevents layout changes from breaking them and reduces the bandwith the use.

1. I don't care if you don't like it, don't post here bitching to revert it when its not done, wait patiently and give input on how to improve it.
2. It doesn't break the Updater(s), it breaks the Updater, singular, that shouldn't even be parsing the HTML in the first place.
hey guys, It is still a work in progress, with more stuff coming soon. progressive search is also an option I'm looking at and I'm also considering really breaking up the data so it is less on the servers at a time.
but really its only ~100k a pageview. so it's not that bad.
This section of the site is by far the most used(1/2 our users) and by far the most underdeveloped.
Keep it civil, no more idiot name calling. Its not needed.
Well I did use the old one, now I've checked the WIP site, it's far from as bad as it's made out to be on this thread.
I like how it's split up in pages, though I suggest pagination based on the first letter of the addon, pagination/search based on category, using an advanced search option (with again the categories to be selected).
Also, it could be me, but currently in Firefox, there is a horizontal scrollbar displayed, while no visible table or div goes over the width of the screen.
Thank you for all the work being done to maintain and enhance this site. Ace2 addin from wowace.com have become an important part of my WoW experience.
I look forward to enhanced searching/sorting functions that are coming, but is it necessary to split up the data into multiple pages? It is a strong pet peeve of mine to have to navigate through multiple pages like this instead of having a single list that can be scrolled through. The strength of this feeling should be demonstrated by the fact that I was finally motivated to register on these forums. :)
If you absolutely must break it up, can you please
1: break it up into fewer groups and
2: put links that are more descriptive than numbers such as the name of the first addin on the page?

Sadly, 2 of the updaters I checked parse the html. Could you tell me where to find the XML feed? I had a look, but didn't find it yet.
http://files.wowace.com/latest.xml

I suppose i should feel lucky that you didn't pick this one;

:)
** maybe it's time for someone to write a cross-platform updater that reads the xml feeds...
Tried JWoWUpdater?
** i was actually thinking of doing this using AIR, but i'll take a look at the Java version...
