Well, they are doing exactly what the authors deserves and yet you qq? Please let me join, cause i don't have a f clue what else they can do to uphold their fast services...
It only took them, what a year, to actually listen to authors and list where stuff comes from, who the author is... Oh, and they omit the actual download site, which can contain ads to pay for the hosting/bandwidth, but of course WoW Matrix has to make money of omitting the ads of the sites actually paying for the bandwidth/hosting that wowmatrix then uses.
Bottom line guys, WowMatrix does nothing beneficial for the overall community.
They are a highly destructive force and will end causing no end of problems. We've tried to negotiate with the directly. They had no desire to hear us out and and doesn't want to work with us in any reasonable capacity to put an end to this.
End result, The users who say FUCK YOU to the addon sites are going to punish *all* the users.

See, kids? WoWMatrix is bad. Kaelten has been polite and calm in the face of the firestorm which was the Curse/WoWAce merger, yet he drops the F-bomb about WoWMatrix. Fear.
wouldn't wowmatrix die easily if the majority of devs, especially those of very well known and widespread addons like omen, bartender, bigwigs and so on, would attempt to be deleted from wowmatrix?

It's not that hard to get him to curse, just find the right sensitive bit of skin (side of the belly works great), grab, twist.

In the past they've been known to remove them from the site but not the updater.
The biggest problem is just that they leech bandwidth from major addon sites and don't credit the author (who is often credited inside the mod but anyway...) right?
I guess it's just the logical step after WAU kinda "failed" for most people that used it and that don't see CC as a valid alternative (I feel so too but that's a different matter...).
I guess the biggest question is still: Where from do we get such enourmous amounts of traffic? I think P2P-techniques will have to be considered sooner or later but if you don't do something against this problem, the symptom of "WoWMatrix" would always have been invented sooner or later... after all it works just like WUU only that the devs don't care that much for the addon hosting sites!
Btw. there are ways to overcome this bandwidth issues, but the addon hosting sites would then see a huge drop of not only bandwidth but also visitors - and since clicks mean money I fear it will stay the way it's now for (maybe too) long...
I tried to get my addons (FuBar, Cartographer, PitBull, Parrot, CowTip, Chinchilla) removed from WowMatrix, and they did remove from the site, allowing me to believe they removed it entirely.
They didn't remove it from their client, though.
It's led me to believe they're just full of deceit.
This isn't even counting the fact that they're stealing bandwidth from addon sites while making money off gold ads.
Well basically they are just automating the process of downloading addon files via a client instead of a browser... as they aren't hosting anything but their site + client (and not your addons) you maybe should better remove your addons from where they download it which would mean noone can get them - also not a real solution I hope.

Edit: @ckknight that was...
And you thought there was a bitchfest over WAU. There are people who never even heard of WAU who use FuBar and Cartographer. Many people. We'd probably burst into flames when they came to take their vengeance.
Of course, but something like 1 month without an update on any of these famous mods and just a link to "whenwowmatrixgoesdownupdatesareback.com" on every download location would maybe at least send a strong signal... I'm not sure which but it would be strong for sure! :D
The audacity and deceit of these people knows no boundaries really. I can confirm that there are a lot of addons offered inside their client that aren't otherwise listed in their website. Including 2 of my own. After explicitly asking them to remove the links/references twice in a row, which I thought they did. Apparently I was mistaken and I bet so were a bunch of other authors.
honestly, the whole legal-ethics-otherwise discussion doesn't bother me at all. fact is, when i read about the change in wowace.com, i did download the curse client. i did create a curse account, just to use it. i tried using the curse client to update my addons.
1st the curse updater installed a new addon without ever asking me to. that's a no do! no argument possible.
2nd it broke several of my addons by trying to autoupdate them. ok, i had backups - but why an autoupdate? it shouldn't even be able to do this, 'cause i don't have a premium account. i wouldn't complain about the extra, unpaid for feature, but i complain about the presetting. a simple ask-before-the-update-starts-function would be nice. like the green "play"-button in wau. i couldn't find such an option in the curse client.
3rd the curse-client doesn't show me if an addon needs updating. just an (incomplete) list of my installed addons. and if i use the update-button it doesn't do anything most of the time. even if i know there is an update for this addon.
yes, i know, it's beta software. but thats exactly my point. it's beta (an if you are honest, it's leaning more in the alpha direction). it's not useable. when i want to update my addons today, i have to use another updater. i don't consider manual updating an option.
i am looking forward to an useable curse-updater. i promise, i will use it as soon as it comes out. till then i will use other means to keep updating.
This. I'm really disappointed the updater wasn't ready after the transition. It wasn't ready for patch 3.0 either. Not sure if it'll be ready for lich king either =p

Hit 'em with a C&D and a DMCA takedown notice. Preferably wrapped around a large brick. :D

I think that that is really the key as to whether or not Wow-matrix can be considered 'good'; either morally, legally or otherwise.
If they have been formally approached and have relentlessly rejected authors concerns, then they should be demonised as much as they are.

Uhm, yeah... what's your point exactly?
I am sick of the position most of the devs have taken toward the end use, that is exactly my point.
