I think a lot of devs hold a very good position towards end users, but what good does it do to devs if they let addon sites go bancrupt because others exploit the expenses they put out? And what good does that do to end-users?
Both devs and users benefit from these sites putting in the effort. It isn't really in the users interest to let that go to down the tubes.

No one will bother looking for hours for one of your mods, you devs overestimate your importance.
Indeed we do. I think we ought to just take all of addons on wowace.com and make them private and only give to our closest friends. After all, none of them matter. And then I wouldn't have to listen to the likes of you either.
I am sick of the position most of the devs have taken toward the end use, that is exactly my point.
I'm an end user myself, but I care who get's the ad-money I generate through surfing addon-pages and downloading addons...
Curse, Wowace, Wowinterface are the only pages on my AdBlock whitelist as I know hoe expansive it is to pay for TB of traffic.
You're right, the transition wasn't too smooth for most users and some of the devs (or longtime users) react a bit prickly, but that's 90% of all cases because people ignore stickies or in general behave like a 5 year olds.
And of course people would care if authors really got wowmatrix to stop distributing their mods illegally, cause nobody can raid without Omen, oRa, Bigwigs, Grid, or similar, nobody can get high ratings without mods like Proximo, PowerAuras, CC Control,... so if all of those suddenly wouldn't get updated by WowStolenmoviename who would still use it?

Well, if you don't like the devs, then you can not use the addons. No dev is forcing you to use an addon, and if your guild is forcing you to use addons, there is always the /gquit command.

The thing is, people used those mods before WoWMatrix. Heck, they used key addons (like KLThreatmeter and CT_Raid) before there were automatic updaters of any sort.
If the devs working on CurseUpdater can get that piece of software in functioning order (I expect they can, but it's gonna take alot of work, as CU is unfortunately pretty bad at this point), then people would have that option.
The timing of the WoWAce switchover was bad. I have no doubt it was required, but so close to the release of 3.0.2 really made things difficult for the end user. As it stands, the poor functionality of CurseUpdater is simply driving people to things like WoWMatrix, and that's unfortunate.
I'm sticking with the tried-and-true method of manually updating for now. It works, and I have complete control over my Interface folder so no program can mess it up. I will refuse to use WoWMatrix as long as it leeches from the main hosting sites and denies the developers what little ad revenue they may see from those sites, and frankly, I don't trust WoWMatrix not to be a malware infested stolen-account waiting to happen.

Can I say something? You may be an end user, but you are very understanding, that alone will make you welcome here.

Well in the end it's not some twisted evil(tm) that turns people towards WoWMatrix but the simple fact that it is a superior product to the Curse Client, at least from a "I don't care how it works if only it works!" point of view.
You can discuss it until doomsday (when curse.com dies) or you could try to come up with a solution to the problem and stop whining about the symptom!
Seriously! WoWMAtrix downloads mods from locations that YOU decided to put them there - if you want to change that you'll have to make 'em private I fear since WoWMatrix is not much different to a browser it is only:
- not ad pestered
- easy to use
- more efficient than downloading + installing mods & updates manually
Btw. I don't use it and I'm not going to use WoWMatrix anytime soon, but if things remain like now (everyone and their mother whining about something that simply downloads addons from sites that host addons and a "Curse Updater" that wants me to pay for like a few MB/year and then isn't even Open Source and exclusively works with curse.com) I guess I'll have to look for alternatives - be it customized scrips that work like WoWMatrix or something else...
Well, obviously we have no control on what people are using to update their addons and that was never the real issue. There is usually good reason why authors choose release site X over Y and excuse me for being so "selfish" (lol) that I (and others by the looks of it), actually like seeing that particular site not being hurt by practices employed by "browsers", such as WoWMatrix, which wouldn't even exist without something actually worth providing a means of (re)distribution for. Yes, we know that some users couldn't care less about that point of view. Perhaps we should do as Mikk suggested then and everyone lives happily ever after (oh yeah I forgot that in such a case those users would come here bitching, at which point I would personally point them to your post and call them whiners using the exact same logic). But I guess we aren't such "elitist jerks" after all, are we now. So what do we do. We ask them (nicely) to remove references to our addons. A request they seemingly comply with. Only to find out that in reality, our addons are still be offered under the table, which personally makes me fraking furious. In all honesty it's not rocket science.
There is a solution and the solution is called Curse Updater or WoWI Updater or The 7th Gate of Hell Updater, "browsers" that are actually developed by the very same entities that are paying for the space and expenses, so that USERS can even have the choice to use those other "browsers" to get their freebies. It is perfectly fine not liking those solutions (hell I don't even like or use the CC myself and I'm not hosting anything on Curse, BUT I'm here willing to discuss, help and ensure a better future). It is not perfectly fine trying to suggest that their "solution" is the recommended or optimal one.
Edit : That being said, I really believe that this thread should either be locked or left to die, since it can only evolve into a flame. Let's just agree that we...disagree and leave it at that.

A reply to the bold parts of the quote:
You are bothered by ads with WoWMatrix. Their own adds used to fund their website/client. You bypass the adds from the host sites that are funding the server space for the addon you are downloading. That is where my issue with WoWMatrix exists.
The Curse Updater/Client does not want you to pay. Yes, a premium subscription exists for the purpose of one click updating and providing some rewards to the authors that host on Curse. Nothing requires you to pay Curse to use the CC. If you choose to pay you get one-click updates, if you choose to not pay, you have to click twice per addon (or something like that).
I don't understand you, curse owners.. If you all says, that wowmatrix is bad, why you allow him download addons from wowace and curse? Set ban on his ip and problem will be solved, is't it?

No, it isn't. WoWMatrix is a client. The IP address would be that of whomever is using that client. No way to know who that is or that it's even WoWMatrix.

He might be talking to the fact it is claimed they mirror addons without permission and this leads to outdated addons. Their server or who ever is doing the mirroring would be theirs not the user of wowmatrix. Though that don't mean it would be easy to figure out.
WoWMatrix is the only reliable and easy-to-use updater currently available. I don't use the Curse Client because I have heard reports of it messing up addons (though it should become more stable as time passes), and for the following reasons:
WowAceUpdater and WoWMatrix do not automatically install their own addons without asking. Curse Client does.
WowAceUpdater and WoWMatrix have an "Update All" button that is free. Curse Client requires you to purchase a "premium" membership.
Although the convenience of WoWMatrix's updating from multiple sites is nice, I would rather use the official client of one of the major addon sites (not least because the version checking is a LOT faster).
To be honest, I don't like Curse at all. I used to use WAU for addon updating, of course, and WoWUI for the addons that weren't on WowAce. I use Wowhead for looking up quests, items, and spells, because I get very annoyed by WOWDB's constant prompts to login, as well as the fact that they ripped off Wowhead's layout.
However, WowUI has a very limited selection of addons, and WoWInterface's updater lacks some key features like automatically loading the list of addons you have installed (it makes you go to WoWI and find the ID). Curse's client seems to have hope, as long as they can put their users before their profit margin.
If you're wondering why I haven't said anything bad about the old WAU, it's because I have nothing to complain about (except, of course, that it's gone). The only thing it didn't do is update non-WowAce addons (and cross-site updates is what prompted the outcry against WoWMatrix in the first place).

But all i see in this idea is no better than a heroine addict looking for a fix. You don't tend to care who gets shot in the face, just as long as you can get your fix.
Wowmatrix is bad if for that one thing, that all in one update fix. TBH, this move by curse.com and instep with wowinterface.com, is a general move to make wow-addons more like production software. Where you as the end user only get stable things that don't break. YOU shouldn't be updating more than twice a month any given addon, if at that (barring addons actualy in major development).
...a general move to make wow-addons more like production software.
Production software like [insert Payware] or production software like Linux where I can pull _much_ more data that took way longer to develop from quite big server farms entirely for free?
