Just gave WADDU a try. Seems to work nicely, though it didn't seem to have mapping for alot of my addons (which I found odd as they're almost exclusively from the WoWAce Projects listings). Anyways, here's some screenshots of the missing addons (until you implement that reporting feature).
A Couple of Requests 1. WADDU doesn't seem to store the window size and column sizes. It's slightly annoying as you have to re-adjust things each time you run the software. 2. An option to save the log would be helpful in tracking down issues when an addon messes up. 3. Proxy support would be wonderful. 4. The old JAceUpdater had a feature to cleanup your SV folder. It would zip the entire folder, then delete any SV files without associated installed addons. It was quite helpful in keeping things clean. Something like that would rock.
Please keep up the wonderful work.
---EDIT---
One more.
5. There doesn't appear to be a way to set WAADU to ignore an addon and not update it. This would be quite helpful.
Yeah, sorry about that. I thought the board automatically created thumbnails (based on someone's similar posting above) but I was apparently wrong. My bad!
ok "download" crash on vista is fixed, but found few more errors/crashes. When you run updater for 1st time and if defaul wow dir wont exist, updater will throw some .net error, after you click continue you program runs and you can set directory and after that error is gone. 2nd crash, if some directory is readonly (more like unable to erase because of privilages) and addon cant erase it it will crash again (noticed when i tryed to update my "network" wow copy that runs on samba server and some addons where not owned by samba user). Last crash is every time after all addons gets updated. I can make some screens if it will help.
+ like half of my addons is not in mappings, ill do my missing mappings today and ill upload it later
also future request is ability to pick from what site you want updates for certain addon and some kind of "smart" updating, because currently it updates all addons every time, no matter if it needs update or not
@saltorio: Thanks for all the Feedback. I will implement your Requests and your missing mappings as soon as possible
@solor: Thanks for the Crash Descriptions. If you got screens, feel free to send them. Would be great if you could add your mappings and send them to me. And yes, that's my next task that you can choose from which site you want to update if an addon got multiple mappings. The "Smart Update / Version" Check is also on my task list.
Someone also sent me the idea to add the Version to the .toc file if it is missing (many authors don't use it, so I have no Idea what version is installed...)
I think I'll add it as an option "Fill Missing Version in TOC" or something.
I also will implement a new kind of mapping called "DirectLink" or something. Where you can give (instead of a tag) the version number, the link to the addon and the direct download link. That's good for some special addons like auctioneer or WIM.
I also thought about allowing people to edit the mappings file directly on the server via a little Webinterface, that would help a lot I guess.
Great to hear some ppl like my App and I didn't write it just for me :)
ok here are my mappings http://solor.fortegaming.com/waddu_mappings.xml (not final since i intend to move from fubar to fortress + LDB but cba to fix this atm) and today i again find out another kinda big problem :) take xloot for example, currently its in development some alpha ace3 version since it gets packed on wowace/projects updater always try to update to that not working version, so for the moment i changed my mappings to take it from curse... ill try to make some screens with crashes i saw bit later today
Thanks for you mappings, I'll add them as soon as possible.
As for your Problem: That won't be a Problem in future Versions, since most ace addons are also on curse, so you can (soon) just use curse (which has a release Version) instead of the wowace alpha.
Decided to test out Mono under Linux. Problem is the hardcoded path. That also will be bad for those with Windows I'm guessing. Unless you check the registry for InstallPath.
Unhandled Exception: System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Directory 'C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft/Interface\Addons' not found.
There is a version of Mono that will probably work under Wine. But I'm too lazy right now.
@CodeRedLin: That bug is fixed in the next Version.
k. I'm a web browser updater myself. But I'll test this out if you care about 1% of the desktop market. Or whatever it is :)
I do not know how Mono works at all. But I do know it won't see a Windows registry. And it won't see things as "C:\". Perhaps a --linux command line argument that skips registry / default path and makes you pick you WoW folder manually. And then saves that to the default?
I just ask it to check versions, not actually update. Right click on one mod and check.. And i get that error. Will try back tracking a version, see if its the same thing
Most important features:
- Set the Mapping you want to use for downloading!
- Detailed View over all Mappings for Addons
- Filter by Name
- You can set a Log-Level
- Log is saved
- Fixed some Exceptions
- Info and Download Link for each Addon / Mapping
- More Mappings (Direct Mappings are now possible)
- Create a List of Addons with no mappings (just copy, paste and send them to me)
Just in case you're wondering: That's how my dev-version looks like.
You can Right-Click on the Best-Mapping to set the mapping you want for updating. Or you can Right-Click every Mapping on the Addon Details page to directly update from this mapping.

first real alternative available ... !!

Have fun :p
Too many automatic redirections were attempted."
happens on all wowace mods.
assuming wowace is blocking this updater now?
They are blocking everyone who makes too many requests in too less time. I'll add some kind of "delay" in one of the next releases.
I just ask it to check versions, not actually update. Right click on one mod and check.. And i get that error. Will try back tracking a version, see if its the same thing

My next Tasks are:
- Ignoring Addons
- Some more Error Catching
- Have a look at disembedded / nolib possibilities
