posted a message on Grid 2.0 -- call for papers
Hi, and thanks for a wonderful addon.

I'm using Grid with all my toons, in coordination with Clique. Couldn't raid without it on my healer, and it's very nice to have on my DPSs and Tank.

I've wrapped my head around the way to configure it, but still have a hard time 'selling' grid to others, due to the learning curve. I especially think
    - defaults should be smarter: show the debuffs I can cure (center icon + top indicators ?) depending on my class, show the buffs I can apply (bottom indicators ?). Auto detec my class, and adapt. Prioritize the center icon by default, too.
    - include, or at least centralize info about, addons. Everybody wants pets, mana indicators, corner indicators...
    - indeed, make sharing my perfect config with others easier
    - incoming heals and hots status are somewhat lacking. I'd like Grid to show my renew / prayer of mending / shield and shield debuff by default, and, separately, other healers' HoTs, heals ... I still need DOTimer to do that right now.
    - pets should be differentiated or at least "hidable" by class: who cares about an healing an imp ? Maybe even by specialization, BM hunters (like mine) would be grateful, and MM hunters wouldn't notice.

What I like a lot about Grid:
    - it just works
    - very small screen usage
    - very ressource economical, and very fast, even on my old PC (6600GT, Athlon 3200)
    - meshes perfectly with Clique
    - very flexible. New boss with new stuff to decurse ? Custom Indicator, problem solved. (A shareable database somewhere would be nice, you must have 100s of user everywhere rushing to WoWwiki to input all those new curses into grid.)

Again, thanks a lot for all your hard work.

posted a message on RE-cursive, a multimob one-click DOT addon
I'm having trouble tracking and reapplying my DOTs in a timely fashion, on multimob fights, and even in mono-mob fights.

Chron et. al. are kinda useful, but the visuals are still not legible enough: you can't with one quick glance see which mobs are dotted with what, wich mobs need re-dotting, and just do it.

What' I'd like is a grid-like add-on with the following features:

    - several rows, one per mob, with the mob's face as a header, plus raid icon.

    - several columns, one per DOT, with the dot's icon as a header.

    - each frame i tha grid shows each dot's time to live, on each target, via a diminishing bar (grid-like), that starts green, turns orange towards the end, end flashes red when the dot is missing.

    - you can re-dot the target by clicking on the mob/dot frame. since the grid has been setup before the combat started, that's still doable with the 2.0 macro restrictions: each frame represents a specific DOT on a specific mob, we're just improving legibility. Actually, that's probably better handled by Clique. We just want the addon to display the stuff ?

-> resists are highlighted too (flashing, sound)

I think the tricky part is acquiring the list of mobs before the fight. Scanning everyone's targets, close-by mobs, mobs with raid icons, and in the end, allowing manually addition of the current targeted mob should do it ?

The DOT's that show up on the grid are a subset of the character's dots, manually selected via tick boxes in a config menu, since most players use only the same few DOTs all the time, and leave several unused (fire dots with +shadow gear, holy fire in shadow form...)

I don't think synching between different users is any use, apart from a very limited synch for target census, maybe ?

I haven't coded anything in a very long time (Z80 assembly, anyone ?), and I not familiar at all with WoW coding.

1- Do you guys think the addon as described is doable ?
2- Can anyone take it up ?
3- ... or point mo to somechere with info on how to get started on it ?

macro to hide the party frames:

    /run for i=1,4 do local f=getglobal("PartyMemberFrame"..i);f:UnregisterAllEvents();f:Hide() end

and, if you want to see them again:

    /reloadui (or logout-login :-p)

There is a conflict with the PerfectTargets add-on, if you have that one. It's still a beta, so maybe things will get better, or maybe the 'load-on-demand' stuff that PT uses breaks Grid's own links to its libraries.

For now, my hunter has PT, and my priest, Grid, which is a bit less than optimal since my hunter has to check for any wandering aggro in toonworld, but then again, I already have a very wandering pet out there to watch over :-p

    Thanks again.

I'm a very popular priest thanks to Grid ( & Clique :-p). Plus , I get to have a bit a free screen estate and eyeball time to actually see what's going on during the fight, while doing a good job of healing, decursing, buffing, and even DPSing a bit.

So I figured I'd renew my thanks (very appropriate for a priest). I think I'd have dropped my priest a long time ago if not for Grid.

    Congrats and thanks.

    Hi again.

I'm using Dotimer to tracks my DOTs and renews (I've got both a disc/holy and a shadows priest). Well, trying to use it actually, because Dotimer only sees spells cast on blizzard frames, not spells cast on grid frame.

    - is there any way I can fix that locally ?
    - is there any other similar addon that works with grid ?
    - is that a grid or dotimr issue ? who shoudl i bug about it ? :-p

Thanks again a very great addon :-)

Thanks a lot for the file but I'm not sur what exactly I should do to

    "1. Modify your Grid.toc to include GridStatusPvP.lua
    2. Modify your locale file (Probably GridLocal-enUS.lua) to include "PvP" and "PvP alert" translations"

    Sorry, noob here :-/

Would it be possible to add an aura that indicates if a player has enabled PvP ? We're getting whole raids contaminated (and wiped on Vael) by **** idiots who forget to disable PvP, so half the raid ends up in PvP mode after buffing, the other not, and group heals heal only half the groups.

Again, thanks a lot and kudos for an excellent addon.

    - Is there any way to show my own Renew buffs differently than other priests' ? I'm not good at counting to 15 mentally for 5-6 people at the same time :-p it would help tremendously to know which people have MY renew, and which have somebody else's, so that I can cast appropriately, since Renews are now stackable.

I'm sorry this is not the right place to post, but I've been trying to do it on the "request page" without luck for the past two days :-/

1- Pets: As a priest, I heal pets. Often. Especially in groups of five, or raids of 10, but oftentimes in raids of 20 or 40 also. Could we see the pets, hunter's, lock's... in Grid, as a separate class, and in a different color and column ?

2- Could we have an "in your list" aura, where we can manually edit a list of players, and any player in that list gains the aura ? That's a quick and dirty way to highlights a healer's "main cares".

3- Instead of repeating our own group, could we not just highlight it in some way, to save screen estate ?

Grid rocks ! I'm currently "selling" it to my guildies, they love it :-) Congrats and thanks !
The second line of text is a very useful modification :-)

Added two items to the wishlist:

1- Ability to display Pets (hunter's, lock's, soon priest's...), because these beasties are important to 5-player groups and even to full raids. Pet should be displayed apart from 'real' players when in group view or class view, different colors and different columns as appropriate.

2- a new 'Focus' Aura for a named list of people that I can creat by hand, so that I can very quickly pick those players in the raid view. Basically, players in my 'Focus' list have one indicator up, which I can display wherever I want and with the priority I want like any regular aura, just so that I can quickly spot them amidst all the other players.

PS: the wiki server is very flaky right now, I'll try and post those to the wishlist later.
