tale, one word of caution: if you have -any- CTMailMod code in Postman (which at casual inspection looks like you do)
While I appreciate the advice, I have been quite careful to not reuse CT_MailMod code or MailTo code, and I think I've been responsible in both noting where I got the inspiration for every feature and in giving adequate credit to the respective authors for their ideas. (I am also aware there are other mods which also have some of these features, but I am not familiar with them, so to the extent that they may have gotten the idea from yet another mod themselves, I am still crediting where I know the feature is implemented, even in cases where I have thought of it independently.) There is othing have I have cut-and-pasted and nothing that I have just retyped.

Of course, there's only a limited number of ways to accomplish some things through the Blizzard API. Some code is inevitably bound to look similar.

Please let me know which code you think I have ripped off, and I will endeavor to see if there is some way I could accomplish the same feature but using unquestionably different code.

As Postal is a different word than Postman, I do not see why a name change is needed. I'll pass.

Because its a similar name and your mod plans on adding some of the same features and it might be confusing for users?

    Postal/Postman get it?

So, let me see if I understand your reasoning correctly. Please correct my errors if I have gone wrong somewhere in puzzling this out; I do not desire to put words in your mouth.

My mod, which is released to the community, committed to the trunk and documented in the wiki, uses as part of its name a common synonym for mail.

Your mod (which I did not even realize you were the primary stakeholder in, because this was not mentioned in your first message), which is not even released to the community, also uses as part of its name the same common synonym for mail, though the actual full name differs. It has no public documentation, no commits to the trunk and no apparent user base as yet.

So your proposal for resolving possible user confusion between the released and documented mod and the unreleased and undocumented mod is to have the former change its name.

If we had both chosen to use the word 'mail' in the name of our respective mods, would you making this argument?

People can figure it out. I am not feeling any particularly strong impetus to change. I am sorry about the kerfluffle with Cide, and now I apparently have stepped on your toes, but this really seems to not be worth further discussion, and not worth my time for going through my code, the svn, the wiki and the forum to change the name I am using. Honestly it would be at least as confusing to people now following Postman to have to change because of some possible confusion with your similarly-yet-differently named mod.

I get: "Postman track is not a valid option for postman"

also you should note that playermenu also uses PM, so using PM track only gives a "Playermenu track is not a valid option for playermenu"

Sure you had the latest version? I did test "/postman track" last night and it was working fine; that particular error message would indicate the previous version of the code.

I've added /pman as another alias, but am leaving /pm for people who don't use PlayerMenu, like me. PlayerMenu users should still have their /pm command since PlayerMenu loads alphabetically prior to Postman. (Right?)

Thought of something else MailTo did as soon as you implemented alt-lclick...

The focus used to remain/revert to the recipient field after sending the mail and had it highlighted as well so you could just start typing a new recipient without clearing the field.

I saw that behaviour before and didn't care for it, just in general. Way too many times in game I find myself typing into some field on one of Blizzard's frames because focus was still there after I completed some action and then expected it to be cleared. (Happens to me a bit at the AH too.) Note that MailTo in other cases would also leave the recipient highlighted but then cleared the focus, which is a misleading UI design. I noticed one instance of this in Postman after my commit last night, which is fixed in the next release.

I'll confess, Blizzard's default client also leaves the (empty) recipient field focused after sending a message. I might add an option to do this with the autofilled field, but at the moment I'm leaning against it pending more feedback from users.

The defaultUI already autocompletes guild member names. CT_Mailmod just never removed their own sendeeautocomplete function.

Ok, thanks. That's new, and I'd been looking at an old version of Blizzard's MailFrame.lua when I recoded my autocomplete. This simplifies the function as now it can just pre-hook Blizzard's with the dropdown list.

You might want to change the name though since "Postal" is on branch and duplicates some of these features.

As Postal is a different word than Postman, I do not see why a name change is needed. I'll pass.

Just checked in an update with the following features added:

    * Alt-LeftClick with "/postman autosend" toggled on will automatically send the item to the recipient in the To: field.
    * Right click on message summary in inbox collects item and money.
    * Reports when an item has been delivered.
    * "/postman track" reports how long til items are delivered.
    * "/pm" is an alias for "/postman"

Alt-Left click is implemented, I should have put that in the features list. Didn't realize it did autosend, I'll add that as an option.
Also didn't noticed the case-sensitivity problem, guess I was unconsciously typing with the right case. Easy enough to fix.

Could you make a page at http://www.wowace.com/wiki/ArkInventory which lists the features, documents usage, has a screenshot or three, and maybe includes any future plans you have?

    Thanks!

How about in addition to having selected names in the pulldown, you add a section or submenu for persons not selected that you have recently sent mail to, or received mail from? The "not selected" is just to avoid cluttering up things by having selected people show up in the selected list as well as recently from/to.

I'll put it on the maybe list.

Also, MailTo may have this, but I've never found it, a way to find out what tracked email is currently in transit, and how long it has until delivery, as I'll often play one character until something arrives, and it would be nice to be able to check how long till the item arrives, if I can't remember what the mod said when I logged in.

Yeah, MailTo has this, the /mt command. It is already planned for Postman.

Hmmm.... there's something that I think MailTo did that you don't mention. Right-clicking on the message in the inbox to take an attachment. I'm very used to that, come to think of it. I mail a lot of stuff to alts, and being able to do this with one click instead of two is nice.

I think this might be in the default Blizzard UI now, but I'll double check. I disabled both MailTo and CT_MailMod to see what features I was really missing by not having them, but am not sure that I actually tested right click after that. It's the way I normally get items, so if it's not in Blizzard's UI, I'll notice soon. :)

Postman is a mail mod based around features of both MailTo, by Vincent of Blackhand, and CT_MailMod, by Cide and the CTMod Team. It is a ground-up, but not clean room, rewrite of those features in the Ace2 framework.

The following features are currently implemented, and credited to their respective source:

    * Memorized recipient list for drop down selection. (MailTo)
    * Remembers last recipient to fill in for next message. (MailTo)
    * Drop down list added to autocompletion list.
    * Alt-LeftClick to put attach item to mail, place in AH, or add to trade or initiate trade. (CT_MailMod)
    * Alt-LeftClick with "/postman autosend" toggled on will automatically send the item to the recipient in the To: field. (MailTo)
    * Right click on message summary in inbox collects item and money. (MailTo)
    * Reports when an item has been delivered. (MailTo)
    * "/postman track" reports how long til items are delivered. (MailTo)
    * "/pm" is an alias for "/postman"

    TODO
These features are not yet implemented, but are coming soon. They are listed in the order I expect to add them. I will probably be doing the MailTo features first since it means that MailTo users who desire to switch to just Postman could then convert sooner.

    MailTo-inspired features:

    * Tracking mail expiry.

    CT_MailMod-inspired features

    * Open all messages on inbox frame.
    * Forward button on message frame.
    * Select messages to group open/return/forward on inbox frame.
    * Mass mailing on separate tab.

posted a message on Rummage - Chat command for looking for items across self and alts
Ok, just had a look at both CharacterInfoStorage and OneView (the backing store for OneBag/OneBank) and I can make it work, with more limited features than using CharacterProfiler. Both of these other mods have wondefully low memory usage compared to CharacterProfiler, for excellent reasons which suited the mods the authors were working on -- but which in the end leaves Rummage without a way to get some of the information it really needs without maintaining its own additional data. Maybe I'll put that into my mail mod if CharacterProfiler isn't present, and Rummage could then use that if it needed it.

In any event, it should be pretty straightforward to make equipped/carried/banked scanning (but not mailbox) work for CharacterInfoStorage and OneView.

This sounds much like possesions (look on other websites for it) but ace'd which is all good.

It is, but this is much simpler (for better or for worse -- for my purposes, for better). It does all its I/O through
the chat frame, not popping up any more windows or adding more information to tooltips or anything. These are features
I will not be adding to Rummage, because as you point out, Posessions already exists and seems quite capable for those who want the full UI.

    Quote from Blind »

    1. If you send an item to an alt, does it the mod know it is in the inbox of the alt?
    2. Can you make it work with onebag/onebank?

    1. Nope, not unless you visit that alt's mailbox after it has been delivered. As mentioned in my last reply, however, I am working on another mod which will (should) enable this feature. I'm sort of undecided on whether to add to the complexity of Rummage by putting logic for mailbox state tracking here, leaning against it. But I do realize that the way I am proposing to address the issue would mean having to also run the mail mod I'm working on, which people might balk at. I suggested to Calvin that it seems to me a good place to do the relevant maintenance is directly in CharacterProfiler, but I haven't heard back from him.

    2. Should be able to, but I think this would lose the ability to search in mailboxes. Hmm, I just had a look at the wiki page for CharacterInfoStorage as well and according to its description, it also doesn't cover mailboxes. I'll add support anyway.

    Can you add support for
    http://www.wowace.com/wiki/CharacterInfo
    http://www.wowace.com/wiki/CharacterInfoStorage
    please?

Sure, I'll look into it and probably have something within a couple of weeks. I just started with CharacterProfiler because it was the mod I already used, and which MailTo also leveraged.

    Quote from EnSabahNur »

And is it possible to add a recipient-dropdown in the mail frame like
    mailto had?

I plan to do this, but not in Rummage. I am working on a new, Aced mail mod that includes this feature, as well as tracking mail delivery and expiry like MailTo does but using one of the generalized backing stores for the data. (Though I very much appreciated MailTo and the ideas that Vincent of Blackhand had, I think one of its faults was a bit of featuritis with the inclusion of a few things that weren't directly mail related.)

posted a message on TalentSafe - Confirm choice when learning a talent
I've converted my old TalentSafe addon to Ace2. It was already a very lightweight addon, so the main thing this added was a simple way to get a chat command which could toggle the state on and off, so if you want to disable it while you are doing a respec so you won't have to confirm 51 points in a row, you can now do that with "/talentsafe standby".

posted a message on Rummage - Chat command for looking for items across self and alts
Rummage is a simple chat command to search by name for items that are worn, in inventory, banked or in the mailboxes of you and all your alts. It is inspired by a feature of MailTo, by Vincent of Blackhand, which used the "/mtl" (MailTo Locate) command to do basically the same thing.

To use, simple enter "/rummage <item name or link>". You can use part of the name, so for example "/rummage iron" would find iron ore, iron bar, dark iron ore, dark iron bar, green iron bracers, et cetera. "/rum" and "/find" are alternative names for "/rummage".

Rummage does no data storage of its own, instead using the data saved by CharacterProfiler, an addon that many people already use to maintain their character data at guild web sites through the UniUploader utility. I am willing to make it work with other addons that store inventory, bank, equipped and mailbox information, but I will need information on just what addons have this same data (OneStorage?) and what structure they use for storing it.

There is a Wiki page for Rummage that lists several known issues regarding data coherency and my thoughts on dealing with them.
    See http://www.wowace.com/wiki/Rummage
