Be careful; I've heard that some can make things worse by blocking air vents or moving air in an opposing direction to that of the laptop's internal fans.

Personally I haven't used any of those lap cooler things. I just use an average-sized pillow lapdesk with a larger piece of wood salvaged from an older lapdesk, and I make sure that all 4 feet of the laptop are on the wood. This gives my laptop a big, flat, hard surface with a proper underside clearance for ventilation.

I also blow out the air vents and fans weekly.

Yea I've read that the fans can be a bad idea too, s'why I was asking for opinions. xD

I was thinking of trying to find a decent passive lap thing for her, and if it was my laptop I'd use a piece of wood or even a cutting board (genius idea tirdal). But it is indeed my fiance's, and she wants something that'd be comfortable and stable xD... *sigh* And it does run hot (imo) at the best of times. When it's idle it's at like 60C.

Thank you for the replies guys. ^^

@Tirdal Isn't that a bit of an expensive cutting board? O_o

Are any of the features modules?
The coloring and what not could just be modules that could be disabled/deleted in favor of another addon doing the same thing if people wanted. Such as PB or another profession addon coloring recipes for alts and such.

We switched to FuBar to be rid of that horrible mess of an addon (well at least I did), I won't ever use it again no matter how much it changed (it still brings a lot of plugins I won't use...).
Although you are right, there are some pretty good LDB displays around and a lot of mods create LDB objects instead or in addition to FuBar plugins.

Titanbar has been completely overhauled from what I've read. In any case, I was just pointing out that it had LDB support as well.

*edit: "You" is being used as a general term directed at everyone who bothers to read the post*

I don't know why it's so difficult to just ignore the things that annoy you. Most of the time there's a pretty decent warning before you even click on the thread link, just from titles alone. You, me, that person over there in the corner with the parrot on his head, and others may not have the patience to deal with certain people/topics, but others do, and probably will. It's just like a movie, tv show, or radio program you don't like. You don't need to watch/listen to it, you don't even need to acknowledge it's existence, it's a personal choice to enter/acknowledge threads that annoy you.

Everyone has their bad days, everyone has their cranky moments, and everyone has those times where they're pushed a bit too far. All in all though, there's no reason to be offensive. If you feel the need to slag someone off for what ever reason, just don't, close the tab/window you have open, and go read something else that'll actually interest you. Smart assery, vulgarity, sarcasm, snideness, etc all have their place, they can be funny; but being offensive is another playing field all together.

This is the internet, you know damn well someone with "this error from an addon I haven't updated since last year, is popping up", or "HAI! I YOOZ DIZ ADDON FROM ANUDDER SYT KEN U HALP ME FIX PLX?". Just accept it, and ignore it, they don't tend to last more than 5 posts (in their own thread). If you actually enjoy the community, be constructive, be constructive with sarcasm mixed in, be a grumpy old man on the porch saying 'in MY day...', just don't be offensive. I'm not talking about calling the UPS delivery guy a Package Delivery Management Technician form of anti-offensiveness, that's just stupid.

Also, this thread didn't really need to go on so long, most of the real points were made a while back. I don't think this needs to be EJ, or substantially changed in any over-the-top manner. The community has really tended to moderate itself, with the exception of a few hot spots here and there. Eh... now i've posted a book. >.>

Have the above error. Can't get alt name to work. The old ones I put in are still there and working, but I can't create any new ones. Anyone know of a fix?

Someone commented that Curse doesn't list the latest revision of Chatter (r226 at this point in time), Curse lists r221, probably because everything after that is Alpha. In any case, go download r226 from the wowace project page for Chatter. That error looks like it was fixed two revisions ago.

    Cheers

Why not point to both? :p Many users (myself included - *before* I was staff) fully prefer to download from wowinterface over Curse.

I was planning on it ^_^

And that list isn't a bad idea :) If I come across an addon to be slapped on there, I'll do that.

Equip the set you want to compare to. Nothing is going to change in tK unless the underlying compare API changes, and I highly doubt it will.

Ah, I must have understood. I thought dual speccing was going to squirrel away the second set like a gbank tab or something. xD Thanks :3

I know a few of you use laptops, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion on a lap desk/cooler/thingy. My fiance just got a new laptop, and it runs a "bit hot". Considering the amount of absolute shite on the interwebz, I was hoping for some actually educated opinions.

Also, you may want to change some of the links to point at Curse rather than WoWInterface when the Curse Rewards program launches. Support the author and all that.

Ah yea, good looks. I'll keep that in mind, I totally forgot about that.

I've followed this thread for a while, but I can't remember if this has been asked before, of it's a feature I'm overlooking. But, would it be possible to hold say... shift, alt, ctrl, w/e to hide the tracking rings momentarily while out hunting for ore/herbs/treasure, w/e?

The only reason I ask is because, obviously, the tracking circle will show on top of ore nodes you've hit before, but when a node is actually there, sometimes you want to mouse over and check what has currently spawned. For example, it's extremely prevalent when farming for Saronite/Titanium, because Saronite, Rich Saronite, and Titanium all spawn on the same spots, or extremely close to, the same spots. So when you're flying along and see two or three nodes pop up (I know, it's extremely lucky to see that many clustered in a radius at the same time, but it happens) some times you want to prioritize and go after that rich saro, or titanium vein before those other two normal saro veins. But the tracking circle will only show what you mined on that spot previously.

So, all in all, I was just wondering if it'd be possible to hold a hot key down and temporarily hide the red circles, just to check what's actually spawned quick-fast.

Sorry for being so long winded. >.>

Not everyone slaps "Broker_" in front of their addons, which is awesome and cool, but not all addon sites are equal in their categorization of addons either.

I'd like to keep Tek's wiki list as up to date as I can...well just because I like it. If people notice any LDB addons missing from the list, could they pop a link to it up here? Particularly those addons that have creative names outside of the 'Broker_' convention, and therefore harder to search for, unless you know what you're looking for to begin with.
