I have finished porting Analyst to WoW 3.0. Major changes for release 1.0.3:

    • Support for the Inscription profession has been added.
    • Support for Currencies (Badges) has been added.
    • LDB support has been added, FuBar support has been dropped.
    • Switch from Ace2 to Ace3
    • Switch to simpler license (MIT)
    Have fun!

Thanks for your replies and pointers. For the moment, I went the easy way and just provided some simple stubs for :LevelDebug(), etc. to continue with the porting effort. That's more or less the Copy & Paste approach suggested by sylvanaar.

I like both DebugLog and tekDebug and intend to use one of them when I start a new addon from scratch.

I am currently porting my add-ons from Ace2 to Ace3. After studying the Ace2 to Ace3 Differences document and searching the forums, I am still unable to answer the following question: Is there a substitute for the functionality provided by AceDebug-2.0 in Ace3? Or more generally, what is the recommended strategy for developer-oriented trace output in Ace3?

Just wanted to let you know that some suggestions from this thread have been implemented in the latest development version.

    • All data can now optionally be presented for all characters on the account. Previously, data was available for the currently logged in character only.
    • The add-on title text in the FuBar now optionally shows the amount of gold gained or lost in the period.
    • Analyst now displays a tooltip on the FuBar. The tooltip contains information from the Overview report.
    • The Flights popup now shows detail information on the flights taken.

Thanks for the ideas. Keep'em coming!

Hey Bethink is it possible to have the option of having the amount of money display in the fubar text instead of the word analyst?

I like this idea. How about showing the difference of gold gained vs. gold spent in the period, i.e. the effective gain or loss?

Can Analyst give me breakdowns on vendor spending to show things like how much I've spent on ammo versus pet food versus other stuff?

Yes. There are popups showing information about the top-10 items bought, sold, etc.

It would be awesome if you could combine the info for all characters on one server. I have a number of alts I shuffle mats around to for crafting etc.

I like this idea and will look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.

    why not ace3?
    why not libfubarplugin-mod-3.0 (framework indypendent)
    and why oldschool dewdrop?

At the time I began work on this add-on, there was an ongoing discussion about Rock vs. Ace3 that didn't really compell me to go either direction. I decided to stick with the trusted Ace2-based libs at that time.

I just find it a bit intrusive of the mod to just bind the key because it's free with out the users knowledge.

As you may imagine, this feature has been implemented on user request ;)

Anyway, I have modified the behavior so that default key bindings are now applied only once (per account or per character, depending on wheter character specific bindings are in use.) After updating, you will have to clear your Shift-E binding once more and from then on, your Shift-E will remain unbound forever ;)

Only thing I don't like is that it keeps hijacking my Shift-E for the analyst window. Managed to hack it out of the lua but guess it will be back next time I update.

Shift-E should only be auto-assigned to Analyst if the keystroke is unassigned when the add-on loads. There is a check in the PLAYER_LOGIN handler doing:

    if GetBindingAction("SHIFT-E") == "" then
    	SetBinding("SHIFT-E", "ECONOMY")
    end

For testing purposes, I have just manually assigned Shift-E to some other action. Analyst did not re-assign Shift-E to itself (as it should be.)

Have you tried manually assigning Shift-E in the keybindings to the action you actually want that keystroke to have?

something i always wanted to see in the auctioneer/beancounter/enchantrix suite is a method to associate costs with reagents you farm from the ah. like, say you buy a random green item for 5g. you get it from the mail and de it to 2 lesser eternal essences. those lesser eternals would get a price of 2.5g each in some list of farmed mats.

This kind of flow analysis is something that I am very interested in.

In the current version of Analyst, Disenchanting is listed in the Crafting report. If you mouse-over the disenchanting activity line, you get a popup showing the items disenchanted and the items produced from disenchanting.

Currently, the activity of disenchanting is not correlated with the preceeding buying activity from the auction house. But it will look into that.

BTW, a similar case can be made for prospecting.

After some "Friends & Family" beta testing I would like to introduce my new add-on Analyst to the WowAce community.

Analyst collects information about the virtual economy and presents that information to the player. In its Economy panel, Analyst answers questions such as the following:

    • How much gold did I earn and how?
    • How much gold did I spend and on what?
    • How am I doing in the auction house?
    • What have I looted from mobs?
    • What items did I consume?
    • What items did I produce?
    • What have I deposited or withdrawn from the guild bank?
    • What is my gathering and crafting activity?
    • ... and much more
All reports can be shown over a configurable period (days, weeks, month).

Analyst ist part of my wowanalyst project. At a later stage, I would like to consolidate some of the collected data on the web site in order to provide comprehensive information and prognosis on the virtual economy of World of Warcraft. Currently, Analyst is an in-game only add-on.

If you are interested in this kind of stuff, please give the add-on a try. I am very happy for feedback - be it bug reports or ideas on how to improve the add-on :)

    Cheers, Bethink
