I am currently having issues with Range Fading. I have a player frame, pet frame, target frame, target's target frame, focus frame, and focus's target frame all set up using the layout. All I want to do is have all of these fade at about 40 yards, when i use racial (hunter) or custom spell the fade is dependent on whether its a harmful or helpful, I just want something to work 100% of the time similiar to Grid please.

    Hello,

Sorry for the shameless plug (especially if I mentioned it before) but here it goes again:

Take a look at LibRangeCheck-2.0, I enhanced the API to make it more suitable for this kind of usage. You can request range checker functions from LRC for specific ranges for friendly/enemy units, and get notified if you need to request a new function ('cos the player's spells/talents changed, or somesuch). I don't know how the current range fade is implemented, but if you need some additional API, like GetSmartChecker(40) that would handle friendly/enemy checks, too, I can add that.

The library is using spell ranges and item ranges, so its granuality is pretty good (5yd increments up till 45 yards, 60, 80 and in some cases 100 yards).

Anyway, take a look at the LibRangeCheck-2.0 API.

    cheers,

    Hi,

    I've created a FuBar look-alike broker display: http://www.wowace.com/addons/bazooka/

    Featrue highlights:

    • Top/Bottom alignment or free moving of bars.
    • Left-click drag moves, right-click drag resizes the bar (unless the frames are locked).
    • Drag-and-drop plugin placement with highlighted drop positions.
    • Configurable background / font / icon size.
    • The usual options for data broker displays (show text/icon/label, optionally show title in place of label if it's missing).
    • Support of iconCoords and icon[RGB] (TomTom arrow, for example).
    • Left / Center-Left / Center / Center-Right / Right placement position for plugins within bars, allowing easy layout of plugins. Plugins placed in the Center area are centered as a bunch.
    • Optional auto-fade while in combat / out of combat.
    • Optionally disable mouse / tooltips.
    • Optional simple tooltips (just show title if Alt is held while moving the mouse pointer over the plugin).
    • Optional highlight on mouseover for the active plugin.
    • Load-on-demand configuration options, small memory footprint for "standard" operation.
If you happen to like FuBar but want to be trendy with all this DataBroker fluff, give it a go :)

    Hello folks,

Due to some unfortunate misunderstanding, I created a bar provider for PB4 that shows the remaining lifetime of your temporary pet (in the pet frame only).

It turned out the original requestor needed something else, but anyway, it's here for the grabbing for those frost mages and the like: PitBull4_PetTTLBar

Using a lib for something as simple and rarely used as range checking..? Much better off keeping it an unloaded LoD module.

Well, in case you only need a simple check (like, only ever check for heal range) then yes. If you need configurable ranges or ranges that can only be checked reliably using item ranges, then I'm not so sure. LibRangeCheck handles the item caching stuff for item based range checks, for example.

    cheers,
    mitch

ps: LibRangeCheck is LoD, so the range-checking part could stay LoD independent of whether it's done in the mod or done using a lib.

    Hello,

Would you be interested in using LibRangeCheck for the range checking module? It has quite accurate range estimates (5,8,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,60 and 80 yards, plus some class/talent specific ranges (like 33/36yd for mages with arctic reach, etc).

I don't know what type of check you need, the current API provides only a getRange() call that returns the minum and maximum ranges, but it probably does more work then necessary. If you tell me what is needed (like, isInRange(30), or isWithin(20, 30), etc), I can add those to the lib if those versions would result in faster checks.

    cheers,

    Hi,

I had almost the same behaviour when I used PitBull for unit frames (it had this "lag" thing when I summoned/dismissed my water elemental).
Not the current PitBull though, so I'm not saying it's PitBull or anything, but I think it could be caused by some bad addon.

    Just a thought,

    Hi,

I created a very simple mod to display remaining life-time of temporary pets (Water Elemental, Shadowfiend, Ghoul, etc): PetTimeToLive.

    Feedback is appreciated.

    Hi,

I've added Thorns and Cyclone to DRUIDs. The Hunter's Mark thing is kinda pointless, as it's the same range as Visibility Range, you can get the 100yd by calling rc:getRange(unit, true) (or just enable the visibility check in RangeDisplay). But in most cases, if you can target someone, you can put your mark on them.

    cheers,
    mitch

Edit: thanks for the pointers btw, please report if I miss any other useful spell :)

posted a message on checking and displaying range for focus, party, etc
    Hi,

I'm working on the next release of RangeDisplay, which will have a Focus frame as well. Pitbull should be able to display range to any frame already via the [Range] tag (it's been a while since I last checked this, so things might have changed)

    Hello,

Glad you like my addon ;) I started with lua/addon coding mostly at wowwiki, and looking at other people's code that did something similar to what I wanted to do.

I've heard there is a new book out on addon coding, maybe that could help as well.

    Hi,

I created a simple cooldown addon (CooldownToGo) that displays the cooldown of the last spell/ability/item you tried to use in a simple movable text frame. Check it out, and give me some feedback.

    thanks,

    posted a message on RangeCheck
    Hi,

Just a quick note: I've converted RangeCheck to use the new GetSpellInfo() call and thus I could get rid of Babble-Spell (spell-name translation) and Gratuity (tooltip scanning). RangeDisplay is converted to Ace3 now.

The addon should work the same as before though.

I got these feature requests that I will probably do sometime soon:
    - separate out-of-range color (possibly with a "dynamic" setting" that will use the out-of-range color based on the last spellcast, will check if I can do it without too much hassle)
    - in-range-suffix and out-of-range-suffix, so that it would be possible to set up RangeDisplay to say stuff like "30-IN" and "40-OUT"

    cheers,
    mitch

ps: (x) if you like the simplistic display of RangeDisplay, check out CooldownToGo, which uses the same style of display to show the cooldown of the last spell you tried to cast :)
