    What I would really like to see in this addon is the ability to disable the lower range in the display. Like, for instance, instead of displaying 20-28, I'd rather just see 28. Also, the ability to disable certain range checks would be nice. Like, I care about 10, 20, 30, 35. Those are the ranges that matter to me. If something is within 28 yards, it might as well display that it's within 30 yards. It's all the same to me.

    Hi,

    The current version on wowace supports the "MaxRangeOnly" option, setting this will display only the max range you're at. I also fixed some stuff in RangeCheck-1.0 (mostly some deadzone anomalies). Right now RangeDisplay is using getRange() instead of getRangeAsString(), so the way is open for implementing some fancy stuff like coloring the display based on the range. Would this coloring be enough for you? You'd still see 30/28/25 as you get closer, but they'd stay the same color, and the color would change only at "places of interest" for you (this will be configurable per class). My biggest problem is finding an intuitive way of configuring these color ranges easily...

    I'm not interested in editing your files. This would make it impossible to update your addons with WowAceUpdater which is really the reason I am looking into your addon. Otherwise I probably would have already done it.

    If it's impossible to add options due to the way you've coded it, as you say, that's unfortunate.

    RangeCheck-1.0 is quite stable now, it won't be updated that often in the future (apart from .toc version changes), so I don't think it would be much of a hassle to edit it. The "ShowMaxRangeOnly" option could be done though, and as I said, you could also use fudge (also available from wowace), but it can only check for one range at the moment, as far as I know.

    Yes, I could use getRange(), I might add this functionality, my previous post was mostly about "dumbing down" the granuality. So even if this "ShowMaxRangeOnly" option will be implemented, I won't touch the checks themselves (you'd have to do that in your own local copy as outlined above).

    Good addon though. Keep up the good work. I'd just like to see a few more config options.

    Hi,

    Personally, I find it useful to know how close to a given range I am, thus for me it's better to see "28-30" or "25-28" than simply "30". The main purpose of this addon is to provide the best possible range estimate, and I'm not convinced I should change that. You're free to edit RangeCheck-1.0.lua and remove the checks you don't want to make (basically, you should comment out lines from DefaultInteractList (and possibly the race-specific InteractLists) like this:
    local DefaultInteractList = {
    --  [3] = 8,
      [2] = 9,
    --  [4] = 28,
    }

    This will check only for the 9yd range then. You can also remove spells from the Friend/Harm list for your class that you're not interested in.

    I can't really put this into RangeDisplay GUI config, as RangeCheck-1.0 might be used by other addons (as it's a library) thus it would affect all other users (addons). Passing this config along during every call to :getRange() would make this a processor hog, which I'd also like to avoid.

    You may wish to try out nudge/fudge (search for them on wowinterface.com), those provide the basic functionality of what you seek I guess.

    I know you want to finish more important stuff first, but just for the record: please consider implementing AdvancedBagsPlus's "replace blizzard bags" feature (and the extra bag bars). That's the only thing that keeps me on ABP right now.

    Sounds like a "tainting" issue: something is tainting RangeDisplay thus preventing it from Show/Hide during combat. If this is happening then you should see the enemy ranges if you're out-of-combat (try targetting a critter somewhere while OOC).

    Unfortunately I can't do much about other addons tainting RangeDisplay, your best bet is to try and find the offending one and don't use it...

    cheers,
    mitch

    Hi,

    I just thought of a workaround for the tainting issue: try commenting out the Hide() in RangeDisplay:targetChanged() at the end of RangeDisplay.lua like this:

    function RangeDisplay:targetChanged()
      if (isTargetValid("target")) then
        self.rangeFrame:Show()
        lastUpdate = UpdateDelay -- to force update in next OnUpdate()
      elseif (db.locked) then
    --    self.rangeFrame:Hide()
      end
    end

    This will make RangeDisplay eat a bit more CPU when it shouldn't (when you don't have a valid target) but it's the price you pay for running nasty tainting addons...

    En-US Human/Mage Armory
    It was working before, but only off and on for the last few patches.

    Odd, I have a mage myself, so the mage class is the most tested, I have no problems with it. Just went to the PTR and I tried it with your talent setup, with all sorts of options (enemyonly/outofrangedisplay/checkvisibility on/off) and couldn't reproduce your problem.

    I think one of your other addons is causing this problem but I really can't imagine how, as it's almost impossible to break RangeDisplay the way you described...

    Could you try running RangeDisplay while all your other addons are disabled? If it works like that, could you post here what other addons you're using? Or if you'd like, try and find out which of those causes the issue.

    Btw, did you get the addon from wowace, or from the "official" release site: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=7297 ?

    RangeCheck no longer shows the range when targetting enemies, even when Enemy Only is checked. It works fine for pets and other players tho.

    I'm using:
    RangeDisplay r45971
    RangeCheck-1.0 r45969

    Hm. What class/race are you playing? (could you give an armory link, so that I can check talents, too?) Was it working OK for you before?

    Edit: and also, what client language are you using?

    thanks for the help,

    Many apologies if this is included or way out of the addon's scope.
    I admit beforehand I haven't tested ingame.

    Goblin Rocket Launcher when activated triggers a Rocket Launch spell that has a 45yards maximum range.

    Do you think there would be a way to use it for getting a <=45 range bracket?

    Hi,

    It might be possible, but not with the calls I'm using now and it'd complicate (and probably slow down) things a bit for not-so-much-of-a-benefit, so it's "out of scope" for now, sorry.

    cheers,
    mitch

    ps: besides, I don't have an engineer character, so I couldn't really test/develop it.

    Wow that was quick. The strata option is now available with RangeDisplay. So far, it works as intended. Thanks for making the change so quickly.

    Eh, you beat me with the announcement :)

    So, yes, the new release is out, the relevant changelog:

    r44840:
    - converted RangeDisplay to use the AceAddon/AceDB/AceConsole framework. Unfortunately this means that previous configuration is lost, but RangeDisplay gained Profiles, and better chat commands. Also, RangeDisplay should be configurable via DeuceCommander and Niagara now.
    - New 'enemyOnly' option to restrict range display for enemy targets only.
    - New 'strata' option to allow setting the frame strata of the range display.
    - Support for Gladiator Gloves (Shaman, Mage) in RangeCheck-1.0.
    - Fix for out-of-range bug near the 10yd range for hunters with the Hawk Eye talent in RangeCheck-1.0.
    - Range display is disabled now if target == player.

    I have an "OhNoes" set that unequips my weapons. This revision made it no longer unequip the mainhand weapon.

    Havn't been able to test but does changing line 708 from:
    if set[16] then
    to:
    if set[16] ~= nil then
    fix it?

    EDIT: Just tested it. It works.

    I've reverted my changes and committed Hallithron's patch in the meantime, hope it really works as he promised :)

    One small enhancement: would it be possible to select the background layer at which the RangeDisplay sits when it is locked? It seems to be at the highest level even when it is locked. This is not a problem when in combat, but it can be when you are looking at the AH or bank. I have a giant "0-9" in the middle of the AH window as a result of this. I have to move the window so it doesn't interfere with the AH. It would probably be better to include a configurable layer attribute when it is locked so that it doesn't interfere with other windows, frames, or objects.

    How exactly would you like this to work? Always on top while unlocked, but on a configurable layer while locked? Or is it OK to stay always on the same configured layer?

    I have one quick feature request for RangeDisplay - an option to show range on enemy targets only (and probably a friendlies only option as well, for healers).

    Should be easy to do, I'll do it sometime soon, although I think enemy range is useful for healers too in many situations (checking prince range for enfeeble, for example), so, would a "Hide for friendly units" feature be enough? (I'll also disable it for target=player as that's kinda pointless :)

    thanks for the feedback,
