sorry to bump an old thread but for the purposes of maintaining a complete closed ticket (in the event someone finds this thread via google or other search), i found what the cause was. It was the addon Informant.
Informant doesn't have the functionality to broadcast loot info. It only adds item info to the tooltip and an information window which the user needs to set a keybinding for.
Also see this in the first post:
There is a check box under the Additional Options heading for "Automatically parse links in text". Clear that check box. If you don't see the Additional Options section then you need to click the "Go Advanced" button.
My apologies. I forgot to check the box in my haste, had my arms full with a one year old. :)
While Stumbling, I came along a Shanghai based site, http://addon.hotwow.com/ . It seems to actually be hosting the addons. They list an addon's basic info, including author, and then a copy/paste of an addon's info. Now maybe they're legit, and just Chinese... but as there is no info on how people are supposed to contact authors for support or what not, thought better to post and be wrong, then not.
FYI: The DMCA Takedown letter Cairenn posted above (post 7) worked the first time and promptly. No bs, just a simple sentence saying they've taken down all info regarding QualityID. I recommend you email webmaster@softpedia.com over gameseditor@... ;).
I believe i've done that as I have my mining mats in one bag and cloth in another bag by itself. The problem is it does not group the same types of cloth together even if they are in the same bag. ie.. all frostweave in the same column or row as the other stacks. Not spread throughout the bag.
Go into Config (not just config mode, but the separate window accessed by right clicking on the large bag in left corner), then look for Controls and in that Sorting. Check the box so it's not sorting by bag but by a defined list and then sort the list on that screen. If you have it set to sort by item level, item quality, type and subtype, catagory, name, then you should see everything sorted properly.
Considering how long it's been since they were at 2.0.0.14 I'd wager that if you uninstall and then reinstall with the latest Client that auto-update will work again. ;)
It may be an "evil quickhack", but seems to be doing it's job pretty well here so far. Any chance of this getting a "real" release (primarily for Curse Client updates, I'm thinking)?
Could just set Silver Dragon to Alpha or Beta quality by right clicking on it in Curse Client and selecting the type. ;)
whenever I loot something, I get a very large popup alert providing me with the most useless information I've yet to see an addon provide: the name and count of the item I have just looted. Its HUGE. like this:
HEAVY LEATHER [ 12 ] BROKEN TOOTH [ 1 ]
It looks just like that, and its horrible. I have not been able to find a setting withing gatherer to disable this.
anyone know how I can turn this off without throwing away an otherwise excellent mod?
plan b: anyone know the name of the parent frame this pops in? I can moveanything it to the size of a dot in the corner of my screen or something.
Abacus, WindowLib, and Waterfall are all deprecated. Infact, Abacus has changed directories in the WoWAce repo, making it impossible to checkout your branch of Skillet since you still have Abacus pointing to the old link.
I guess basically if an add on takes more effort than the game does I like to call it a fail.
Any addon like Gatherer, QH, Cartographer, etc. takes a lot of effort, and most likely, more time than the authors use to play the game (at least while actively working on it).

I personally appreciate the email. It reminds me that I have a premium account and to check my author points. ;)

Oh well then, guess we don't need to worry about it. ;) :p

That's not a feature of Gatherer.
